Dance Of The Deity eyes successive country cups 20 / 02 / 2010
FORMER Victorian pacer Dance Of The Deity will be seeking back-to-back cups when he steps out in the North-West Tasmanian Light Harness Association Cup at Devonport on Sunday night.
Dance Of The Deity scored a convincing win in the Carrick Cup last month at what was only his third start in the state.
The six-year-old gelding is owned by Victorian-based racing car ace Gary Rogers who has business interests in Tasmania which led to him sending over a dozen horses to Brighton trainer Phillip Ford, one of which is Dance Of The Deity.
The gelding's first two efforts in Tasmania resulted in minor placings, comprising a third on the grass track at St Marys on New Year Day and a second in Hobart just over two weeks later.
On Sunday night he has drawn gate three on the front row of the standing start event over 2645 metres.
"He has a good record from standing starts so if he steps and finds the lead he'll be hard to run down but he doesn't have to lead to win," Ford said.
It is a strong race with plenty of experience in the race with the pole marker Trouble No More a C 21-M1 class horse with 27 wins and 48 minor placings from 161 starts, which is a more impressive record than any other runner.
Dance Of The Deity has won 10 from 41 with 15 minor placings, which gives him a more than useful strike rate compared to his rivals.
The NWTLHA Cup is race six on the nine-race card.
