Shez Ryleymak likely favourite for Devonport Cup 05 / 03 / 2010

Shez Ryleymak after her brilliant win in Hobart last Sunday

STAR pacing mare Shez Ryleymak is likely to star favourite to win the $30,000 Bullock Consulting Devonport Cup (3020m) on Sunday night despite having to start from an awkward barrier position.

Shez Ryleymak will start from the outside of the second row of the front line while a couple of her main rivals have drawn well on the front line.

The Rohan Hillier-trained mare began this preparation with a game third in the Gold Label 4YO Classic at Devonport in mid December, which preceded a luckless seventh in the Mother of Pearl in Launceston a week later.

Hillier freshened the mare and she resumed with a brilliant win in a C3-4 race over 1609m in Hobart but it was her last-start win on the same track and over the same journey last Sunday night that had the industry abuzz.

Shez Ryleymak produced one of the biggest efforts seen on the Hobart circuit this season to win, coming from near last on the turn to run down Gamblers Rustler that is one of Tasmania's most promising pacers.

She produced a mile rate of 1.58 for a last half (800m) in 58 seconds but her last 400 metres was simply breathtaking.

She will have to at her top to win on Sunday night because there is plenty of depth in this year's race.

Our Sir Jeckyl can mix his form but if he was on his best behaviour and stepped cleanly fro gate four he would take some catching.

Sky Tower has drawn well in gate six, the outside of the front line and he too has what it takes to win without surprising along with his stablemate Yakuza who while coming off the back mark of 20 metres, he is a class act and warrants plenty of respect, especially over the 3020 metre trip.

Consistent performers in free-for-all class such as Ulos, Awesome Jasper (10m) and Dance Of The Deity all are strong each-way chances and the up and coming Mister Tehaych must also rate highly on the strength of his last-start Latrobe Cup win at Devonport over 2297m.

If there was to be a boilover it could come from the pole marker Winjammer that is a last-start winner on the track in the NWTLHA Cup scoring from Trouble No More and Gettysburg Address.

The Devonport Cup is race seven on the 10-event card and is scheduled to start at 7.50pm (AEST).
