Clifford double at Spreyton 28 / 02 / 2010

Jason Clifford with Delighted Owners after trackwork last week

JASON Clifford emerged from today's Devonport meeting with a double courtesy of impressive wins by Rocky Times and lightly raced four-year-old Delighted Owners.

"I only took two to the races so to leave with a double is a great day's work," Clifford said.

Rocky Times (Ladoni-Fracas) was resuming from a lengthy spell but had been to the trials and had worked extremely well the week leading up to the race.

Jockey Brendon McCoull had the gelding well-placed in the run settling just off the pace and poised to pounce on the home turn.

Despite running about 200 metres out he steadied and hit the line a head clear of Millow and first-starter Lipseoni.

"I'm very pleased with how Rocky Times hit the line but the trip north and the run has taken its toll, so we'll most likely wait three to four weeks before he gets another start," Clifford said.

While Rocky Times was visibly tired after his effort, Delighted Owners was full of vim.

"Delighted Owners has done a lot of work so he's super fit and I would have expected him to come through the first-up run better than Rocky Times."

Delighted Owners was having his first start since being diagnosed as a roarer.

"Delighted Owners had the wind operation and often they don't race again let alone win like he did today," Clifford said.

"He is a very strong horse and the operation appears to have been a total success."

"Only time will tell but for now he is going great guns and I fully expect him to keep winning this preparation," he said.

Clifford said Delighted Owners would most likely have his next start in a 1200-metre class one in Launceston.
