Jockeys Celebration Day at Tattersall's Park 13 / 03 / 2010
The National Jockeys Trust (NJT) will conduct their annual fundraising day at the Tasmanian Racing Club race meeting on Sunday at Tattersall's Park.
The NJT exists to provide financial support to jockeys and their families in times of hardship due to injury or death from a riding fall or other unavoidable circumstances.
During the race meeting, merchandise will be available for purchase and donations will be sought for this worthy charity.
Kevin Ring, Secretary of the Tasmanian Jockeys' Association, is looking forward to the race meeting. "It is an honour to be associated with this worthy cause. The fundraising efforts are to commemorate and thank over 300 fallen jockeys throughout Australia, the jockeys riding now and also retired jockeys for their contribution to the industry" he said.
The NJT will also conduct a golf tournament in conjunction with Tasracing at the Kingston Beach Golf Club on Monday 15 March 2010. The Ambrose competition will comprise teams of four with loads of prizes on offer.
Former jockey Peter Hutchinson will be a special guest at the golf day. Peter is known as the "Laughing Jockey" and well known in the past for working with the acclaimed Hayes stable. Peter has won jockeys premierships in Adelaide, a Caulfield Cup on Fraar, a Blue Diamond on Canonise and the Hobart Cup on Frontier Boy. Peter who has ridden close to a 1000 winners during his career is on the comeback trail.
